A Word From the Board President

Dear Friends and Supporters,

I have some exciting news to share with you.  On behalf of the Women of Nations Board of Directors I am proud to announce the appointment of Michelle Thompson-Tuttle, of St. Paul as our new Executive Director.

“I am honored and humbled to be chosen to serve the mission of Women of Nations as the new leader, “ said Michelle.  “I look forward to working closely with our staff, the board and with our partners and the community throughout Indian Country to continue the vital work of the organization,” she continued.

In the last few years, Michelle has served as an Independent Consultant for the American Indian Family Center, Grotto Foundation and Native Americans in Philanthropy.  Michelle is a former principal, assistant principal, teacher and program director, having worked for both Minneapolis and St. Paul Public Schools.  She received her Masters of Arts degree in Educational Administration from the University of St. Thomas and her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology/Political Science from Macalester College.  She also serves on the Ain Dah Yung Board of Directors, which is a St. Paul based nonprofit serving American Indian Youth.

We could not be more thrilled to welcome Michelle to Women of Nations.  Her extensive experience working in the American Indian community, her background as a multi-cultural educator and her proven track record as a strong leader and visionary will serve our organization well. The Board is committed to working in partnership with Michelle to continue to strengthen our services and build on the foundation developed in over 26 years of serving battered women, their children and the community.

Michelle, who is an enrolled member of the Sisseton-Wahpeton Dakota Oyate, will formally join the organization on September 21, 2009.

Sincerely,

Carla Thompson-Kurtz, Board President
